9Yards Lawn Care & Landscape was started by myself (Dan Taulbee) and 2 friends back in 2010 as a means to supplement our income. One friend Mike (former partner) had lost his job and struggled to find employment with his bad knees, so I asked him "can you ride a lawnmower?" He COULD!! And the rest is history.
We had no company name initially but we did end our first year with 9 regular customers. Luke, one of the partners, said "How about the name 9 Yards? As in... the whole 9 yards?" I scoffed at the name (in my head) and was actively thinking of other names... until I learned where the phrase came from.
The legend of the phrase "the whole 9 Yards" came from WW2 where the machine gun bullet chain was 9 Yards in length. When American fighter pilots saw the enemy in range they would tell the gunner, "give them the WHOLE 9 YARDS." Meaning - give them EVERYTHING... give it your ALL!!
That is our motto - The Whole 9 Yards - to give our customers our all - our EVERYTHING!! We do strive to give our customers their BEST "bang for buck." We aren't the cheapest lawn and landscape company but we try our best to be affordable to meet any budget.... we aim for top notch quality and settle for nothing short of EXCELLENCE... and being the most reliable company is the top of our priority list that I take a lot of pride in!! Quality, Reliability, and Affordability are the basic principles that 9 Yards was founded on - and I believe that makes us among the very best!!
Thank you to our customers - some who have stuck with me through a LOT of learning curves, through a lot of setbacks, and have given us a lot of grace when we didn't get things to our expectations. Our livelihood is because of you and we are eternally grateful. I am extremely blessed to have some great teammates who continue to be better workers and better humans. If this company was, solely about this company, then all business revenue is in vain. I started this company to help a friend.... and I still believe that is what the mission is of 9 Yards - to "Help." Help our customers with a good honest service, Help our employees with the means to take care of their families, and to Help others with our talents and resources.... "the whole 9 yards." GOD bless all of you!!
